In 1999, Peter Hughes, Holden’s manager of exterior design, produced a two-dimensional draft image of the VE composed prior by Michael Simcoe, Holden’s design director at the time. It was known within Holden as the "Bill of Design," for the sketch served the purpose of the future VE Commodore's production design. There were obvious changes to the model, which included the VE LED lights, along with the low-profile side window cluster, and the wheelbase was drawn out more; however, the domineering look remained unchanged.

Commodore models had always changed the design of their tail lights, utilizing many altered designs.
Commodore decided to use the basic VE LED lights for its lower-base models, and they utililzed an extremely decorative design for its luxury models.

One such model is the VE Omega, as it came with red round lamps with both its clear reverse and indicator lamps. Howbeit, the Calais and Berlina models were enhanced with a tri-striped design.
The SSV variation to the VE Commodore embodied raciest VE LED lights. The VE LED lights had a built-in chrome bezel with red centre lights, black reflector, and also clear reverse and indicator lamps.

The Holden Special Vehicles made Commodores and took one step further and had absolutely redesigned tail light design that had a need for a totally different sheet metal. The new sheet metal was a novel approach for the HSV, as it was a modernized alteration.
The HSV VE lights were rectangular, and Holden had it go around the rear of every vehicle. The lamps themselves were accentuated with two circular LED lights that were quite similar the famous Nissan Skyline. The HSV tail lights cannot manage to be placed on standard Commodore models. The headlights of the VE LED lights were remade too. As with earliler models, the VE LED lights were more decorative for the luxury models.

The lower-base models were made with simple black reflector headlights, however the more luxurious models of the VE Commodore, such as the SSV, came with an amazing projector lamp in the centre that counteracted the more aggressive look of the VE Commodore.
